If I'm remembering correctly, this was the 2nd time in my life that I've been away from Utah for the 4th of July. (The only other time was while I was on my mission in Montréal.) It was definitely sad not to be with family, not doing water balloon volleyball, eating cracker jacks or watching the Stadium of Fire fireworks from our front yard. BUT, it was fun to add touches of red, white and blue around our apartment and celebrate here in St. Louis. We had a little breakfast with a few of our friends (who share the same walk and are great built-in and impropmtu outside play date buddies), the Thornocks and Joyce and her son Gabriel. Bry manned the griddle and whipped out the pancakes, mickey mouse, star and flags included :0) It was simple and laid back and a fun way to start off the holiday.
(Good ol' Pinterest came through again! Free Land that I Love printable, fill in the United States of America, flag bunting and festive ice cream sandwich. Brie helped me make the buntings, and who doesn't love free printables...and adding sprinkles to have an instantly festive and patriotic dessert? ;0))
For dinner we tagged along for a barbeque put on by Erica (Liz's friend). We didn't know most of the people there, but she was so sweet to include us and to share their delicious spread. The jalapeno bratwursts, grilled mushrooms and Fitz's rootbeer were my favorites :0) But really the best part of the evening was sitting out in the gorgeous weather and watching Brie and Alex play with their cousins, Lilli and Aliyah. Not to mention Elijah and Maya (3 months apart) seeing each other for the first time since Heaven, grabbing at each other and holding hands. Cousinly love, doesn't get much better than that :0) We saw a few fireworks as we drove home...even more magical were the fireflies dotting the lawns as we drove past. Happy Independence Day!
